Note: This particular class is focused primarily on creating a space for women, femmes, thems, trans and gender non-conforming folks.

BRING YOUR FEMME RAGE to this class! The energy we're bringing is catharsis. We're dancing to Gatekeeper by Jessie Reyez

Content warning for the song choice: This song is about the abuse of power by men in the music industry.

More background about the song:

When I saw Jessie Reyez perform this song in concert, she said she had written it after a music industry executive told her that she was going to have to perform a lot more sexual favours if she ever wanted to get famous. She is now a multi-award winning artist from Toronto, currently touring with Sam Smith. This song is really about her standing in her own power and proving him wrong, and expressing the rage at the systemic abuse of power within her industry.

Don't Repent. Just Rejoice.

We're setting the lights down low, closing the door and creating something magically sensuous!

PRICING:

The recession is here. Everything is expensive. I'm running a pilot project with this class with a "pay what you can" model with a suggested price of $30.00. If $5 or $10 is the difference between you being able to come and dance with me or not, I'd like to remove that barrier. If you're in a position where you're able to pay a bit more, that extra fee will go toward subsidizing the cost of someone who may not be able to pay the suggested price. If I'm able to continue to cover my costs with this pricing model, I may also just switch to this going forward or do a mix of classes with this model to make it more accessible.

Also, please note that if you are in a position where you are not able to pay anything toward the session fee, or even just a small amount of $5, that is totally okay! I trust folks to pay what they are able to afford and what is within their budget. I will never judge anyone for the amount they choose to pay toward my classes.

FOR MY FOLKS WITH CHRONIC PAIN/ILLNESS

I am setting aside 3 last-minute spaces in my classes that will be released the day of my workshops. As a fellow person with chronic illness, I understand that you can't plan flare-ups or energy levels ahead of time, which also means that a lot of times we miss out on things we really want to do because they sell out. I'd also like to remove this as a barrier for attending my classes, so if you feel well enough to join me the day of class I would love to have you!

Rejoice in your gender expression.

Rejoice in your sensuality and sexuality.

Rejoice in your body as it is right now.

Rejoice in your queerness

Rejoice in unapologetically taking up space.

Rejoice in reclamation.

The best form of active protest is loving yourself for exactly who you are right now. In this moment.

Welcome to this series of pop-up movement workshops with the goal of creating a space for you to just be yourself and become grounded in your body through burlesque.
