What is SINNER SUNDAYS?

Sinner Sundays are a series of pop-up burlesque classes focused on creating a space entirely dedicated to celebrating yourself exactly as you are right now. I became inspired to create this series after having a discussion with a friend about all of the shame that was so central to the ideology of Catholicism. I grew up in a Catholic school, and religion was a pervasive part of my upbringing.

I started to ask myself “What would the opposite of shame look like?”

It would look like embracing my beautifully queer self.
Like hanging up on my self-critic when I started to engage in negative self-talk.
It would be loving my body as it is right now for all that it does for me.
It would be creating the space for me to explore my gender identity.
It would be a low-stakes space for me to explore what it means to feel sexy on my terms and to give myself permission to feel awkward and just move my body in a way that feels right.
And mostly, it would be taking up space with people who are looking for the same things.

What is a more powerful act of resistance than accepting yourself for who you are right now?

That’s what I want to create within these classes.

I won’t split you up into groups to perform for each other.

I will create space within my classes for those who want to take videos of themselves dancing and feeling themselves, and for those who don’t.

I will create a studio space with sensory-friendly lighting in a studio space that doesn’t require stairs to get into.
