It feels weird to write about myself in the third person, so I’m not going to. Hey, I’m Delilah D’lish (Dee), your soon-to-be burlesque instructor! I am queer, neurodivergent, and non-binary. I’ve been performing burlesque for over a decade now, produced shows with internationally renowned headliners, have run a burlesque troupe, and have now settled into the world of teaching burlesque.

I love teaching, and I have well over two decades of formal dance training in several styles including tap, ballet, and jazz. I regularly engage in professional development and take classes with other local instructors in a variety of styles including pole dance, heels, and floorwork. I love learning from other creative individuals and modifying my teaching style when I learn from other talented artistic folks. I believe that being a great teacher is always an ongoing process of refining and modifying the way I run a class. My students teach me just as much as I teach them.

I enjoy watching people become more grounded in their bodies, fall in love with themselves, explore their gender expressions, and find community in my classes.

I’m good at creating a space that puts many people at ease (especially those who are new). As an autistic person, creating sensory-friendly lighting is important to me. I turn off the main fluorescent lights in my studio and instead use coloured floodlights to create a fun and sexy mood. I also love creating movement in my open-level classes that are accessible or can be modified for anyone with any type of body.

Anyone of any gender expression is welcome in my classes, and I actively work to create space that feels comfortable for queer, gender non-conforming and disabled folks.
